Open Door Libraries (ODL), is very happy to be in partnership with Arab-American Learning Center (AALC) in Sacramento, CA in developing a new library for the center. This center has a fantastic ministry serving the physical, relational, emotional and spiritual needs of the 30,000 Arab and Afghan refugees in the Sacramento area. Some of the resources the center provides are a preschool, church, sports, cafe, resettlement services, etc.
The new library will be called, “Nour Library”. Nour in Arabic means, “Light” or “Divine Light”. We pray they will see the light of Jesus as they participate in the library and other services at the center. In our other locations we have a high percentage of English books (75-90%) because these books attract locals who want to improve their English. We discovered something that will make this library unique compared to our other ODL Libraries. Immigrant families in Sacramento not only want English resources for themselves but they are also quite concerned about the young people in their families not learning the language of their family heritage. Consequently, we have been asked to make sure we have a large number of Arabic and Dari resources on our shelves. These books will need to be purchased as most of us Americans do not have them on our shelves to donate.
Please join, John Richardson and his great team of volunteers who are guiding the development of this project toward a desired soft opening by the end of the 2022 year. Pray also for God to provide the resources (books, computers, furniture, etc.) that are needed. If you would like to contribute to these needs please scroll further down on this page.
