Week One in Mexico

Caleb is thrilled to be serving in Mexico this summer. Read about his new home here!

It has been just over a week now since I landed in Querétaro, Mexico. Querétaro is a large city in central Mexico it has a population of just over 1 million. Querétaro is one of the fastest growing cities in Mexico with ample opportunities for work. With beautiful colonial architecture and an authentic cultural feel in the city center with charming squares with ample shade from the sun and the typical central Mexican heat. As Querétaro expands rapidly to accommodate the growing population, there are sufficient opportunities to plant churches outside of the city’s center that is full of Catholic cathedrals which, while beautiful, serve more to fit the culture than the religion.

I am serving with Impacto Latino, an organization that strives to reach unchurched peoples by planting churches. Impacto Latino’s approach is to create loving environments that are comfortable and welcoming environments for both life-long believers and skeptics. Their approach has seen their first church plant, Iglesia Cristiana La Viña, draw numbers of close to one hundred just after their first birthday. Throughout this summer I will be working in La Vina on the weekends and in the Impacto office during the week.

This first week I have spent my time in between meetings and bible studies to get a feel for the culture and for the organization. I have also had plenty of time to eat some fantastic food like tacos, elote, and chilaquiles as well as spending time getting to know my host family. I have been encouraged to see all the ways that God is working here in Central Mexico and I am extremely excited to see how God will be able to work through me here as well as in my life.

¡Saludos y Muchas Gracias!
