A Small Part of Something Much Bigger

Team London

Written by Taylor — Serving in London

I am in awe of how the Lord worked and moved over this past summer in London. Being able to be a small part of a greater mission for the UK and London was such an honor. There is so much I could say about the ministries I was able to have a taste of or the different people I met during my time. However, one thing that really struck me about my time in London this summer was the need for the Gospel. The need and true desire from people for something more, something deeper, something with meaning and purpose. My site leaders talked about how the UK and London used to be one of the world’s largest sending nations for cross-cultural missions. Now 60% of people in London have either never heard of the Gospel or want nothing to do with Christianity. The need is real. I constantly was reminded of Luke 10:2 this summer, talking about how the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few. This is so true for London, but also for so many nations across the world.

I am so amazed by the fire for the Gospel people carried and the desire to see the harvest reaped in London. I hope that I can take even an ounce of that same fire and urgency with me as I settle back into life in the States. As I was reading back through some of my journal entries from my time earlier this year in North Africa, the Lord highlighted a specific moment I wanted to share. “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” This was something that I wrote months ago and read through it again this summer and am able to see where the Lord has given good gifts over the last few months.

I am so amazed by what the Lord allowed me to be a part of this summer. I am grateful for a healing summer from what was a really hard last nine months. I’m grateful for my site leaders and their family. I’m grateful for the amazing connections I made with people this summer and the ministries I was able to connect with as well. I am grateful for new open doors and aims the Lord has begun to highlight over the last month, and what that could look like for the next two or three years. But more importantly, I am grateful for the Lord and the care he has for his children. If I remember anything from this summer, I want to remember that my heavenly Father sees, knows, and loves me. He knows what I am going through and wants to walk this journey of life with me. His plans are far better than anything I could ever imagine, and I am so excited to embark on this new journey with Him.
