Since 2019
Family Retreat is a unique model that invites entire families affected by disabilities to experience rest and renewal. Life impacted by disability can be very isolating as well as draining. Since 2013 our team has hosted eight retreats for families in Chiang Mai, Thailand. At Retreat the church is empowered through hands on serving and connection to the families, while families are encouraged and ministered to in powerful ways. Each individual with a disability, and all children, are assigned a buddy who helps to care and encourage them during the Retreat. We offer therapist consultations, pampering for parents, workshops, guest speakers and engaging children and youth programming. The local church proclaims the gospal, and additionally over the last two years we have engaged a local Thai seminary in serving the families. Families leave encouraged to press on and excited to bring disability ministry to their own communities, as well as feeling connected to the local church and comunity.
In 2020 we are adding a second Retreat, geared specifically for missionaries serving overseas with a family member affected by disabilities. Through this we hope to see missionaries encouraged and equipped to continue serving in their regions as well as emoboldened to incorporate disability ministry in their areas of ministry.
