In celebration of Fledge's 50th birthday celebration we would like to plant 500 trees to restore the Sand Forest in South Africa.
Dry Sand Forest is South Africa’s most endangered forest type, providing critical habitat for many endemic and rare plants including mosses, ferns, orchids, trees, and threatened animals including the Dwarf Suni antelope. Our project goal is to restore 10 acres of sand forest at the Greater Ukuwela Nature Reserve, planting a total of 10,000 trees of 20 native sand forest varieties.
Support the restoration of this very threatened and very special forest by planting a native sand forest tree. Your donation funds the collection of native seeds from our existing remnant forest, construction of a nursery where these seeds will grow over 2-3 years, clearing of alien plants from the restoration area, and the purchase of saplings for immediate restoration planting after the rain this October.
