Sometimes we may be on a certain “purposeful” path only to realize it was to lead you somewhere else - and it blows your mind. This happened to me recently when one of the kids at the “25th of May” home ran away into Skopje, and a friend and I went looking for her on foot.

While searching for her downtown, some little children ran up to me and begged for money. I looked around to see if they were with someone else, and they were with a small group of “street” kids in an open area with a campfire. I told my friend that when we walked by here on the way home I wanted to stop at that campfire and meet the kids. So we walked on, searching for the missing girl. We didn't end up finding her, but the police did and returned her to the home.

Three hours later we headed back and once again we came upon the street kids at the campfire. Those same two little ones came up to me and begged for money again. I squatted down and asked them their names and their ages - Bobby (5) and Muhammed (3). I then met the rest of the kids at the campfire: Cemra (11), Sibil (12), Emshe (15), and Emshe's baby Omer (4 months).

These children have always been on the streets and it is all they know. All of them looked unclean, but not unfed. In our conversation, the “25th of May” home came up, and Emshe said something that blew my mind. She had a brother at the “25th of May” and his name is Jusuf. I almost hit the ground. Emshe said she had only seen him one time in the last 4 years. I have known Jusuf for 3 years!

I took the news back to Jusuf and showed him a picture of Emshe and me together. He couldn't believe it. Then I asked Jusuf if he wanted to see his sister. He said yes with tears in his eyes. Later that week I took a taxi, picked up Emshe and her baby, and we drove to the “25th of May” home. She finally saw her brother for the second time in 4 years. What a reunion!

I see Emshe and the group of kids every week, bringing them food and drinks. I love them very much and they have become my friends. God is awesome.
